hen people plan a boat rental in Milos, they usually spend most of their time thinking about where they want to swim and which parts of the coast they want to see. Food often gets forgotten until the morning of the rental, when someone suddenly asks what they are going to do about lunch. There is no need to plan anything complicated. You can bring food with you and eat on the boat, or you can include a stop somewhere for lunch as part of your day. Both options work well, and the better choice really depends on how you want to spend your time.
Bringing your own lunch is probably the easiest option if you want to spend as much of the rental as possible on the water. You don’t need to change your route because someone is hungry, and you can eat whenever it suits you. Keep the food simple because you don’t want to carry a huge picnic onto the boat. Sandwiches, fruit, snacks and plenty of cold water are usually more than enough for a day out. The boats do have an ice box, which can also be useful for keeping drinks and food cold during the warmer months. The nice thing about bringing lunch is that you can wait until you find somewhere you really like, stop the boat safely and eat there. You might have planned to eat at a particular place but find a quieter cove along the way that you prefer.
Some people would rather get off the boat for a while and have a proper lunch. This can also work well, particularly on a full-day rental when you have more time available. A lunch stop gives everyone a chance to get out of the sun for a while, sit down comfortably and have something more substantial than the food you’ve brought with you. It can also break up the day nicely if you’ve already spent several hours swimming and travelling along the coast. The important thing is to plan the stop before you leave. Not every beach has somewhere to eat, and not every restaurant or beach is suitable for arriving with a rental boat. If you would like to stop somewhere for lunch, tell us during your briefing and we can explain what options make sense for your route that day.
For a shorter rental, bringing food with you usually makes things easier. A restaurant stop can take longer than expected once you include getting there, stopping the boat, eating and then setting off again, so it may use quite a large part of a half-day rental. With a full day, you have much more flexibility. You can spend the morning swimming and exploring, stop somewhere around lunchtime and then continue with the rest of your route afterwards without feeling that you have lost too much time. This doesn’t mean you need to book a full day just because you want lunch. It simply means that you should think about how you want to use the hours you have available.
If the main reason you’ve rented a boat is to explore Milos from the water, it makes sense to keep lunch fairly simple. You don’t want to spend half the day travelling somewhere just because you’ve chosen a particular restaurant. Decide roughly what you want to see first, then work lunch into that route. If bringing sandwiches and eating on the boat makes more sense, do that. If there is a suitable place to stop for food along the route, you can make that part of the day instead. You can always ask us before you leave. We know the area and can help you work out an easy plan without sending you backwards and forwards along the coast.
Even if you’re planning to stop somewhere for lunch, bring enough drinking water with you from the beginning. During the summer it gets hot on the boat, and you’ll probably be spending quite a lot of time swimming and sitting in the sun. It’s also sensible to bring a few snacks. Plans can change, you might decide to stay longer at a swimming spot, or lunch might happen later than you expected. Having something small to eat means nobody needs to start worrying about finding food immediately.
If it’s your first time renting a boat, we would keep things easy. Bring some food, cold drinks and water with you, choose a few places you would like to visit, and don’t make the schedule too strict. If you’re out for the full day and would like to stop somewhere for lunch, tell us before departure. We can help you include it in the route rather than trying to work everything out once you’re already on the water. For a shorter rental, bringing something with you is often the simpler choice because it leaves more of your time available for swimming and exploring.
Lunch doesn’t need to be a big part of planning your boat rental in Milos. Bringing your own food gives you the most flexibility, while stopping at a beach for lunch can be a nice addition if you have enough time and there is a suitable stop along your route. Think about how long you’ve rented the boat for, what you want to see and whether you’d rather spend more time on the water or take a longer break for lunch. Once you’ve decided that, the rest is fairly easy. If you’re not sure what works best with the route you’re planning, ask us before you leave and we’ll help you work it out.
