what to bring on a boat in milos

If it’s your first time renting a boat in Milos, one of the most common questions is: What should I bring with me?

The good news is that you don’t need much. People sometimes imagine they need special equipment or a long packing list, but most boat days are actually very simple. In fact, the people who enjoy the day the most are usually the ones who keep things easy and don’t overthink it. If you’re renting a boat from us, here’s what we recommend bringing with you.

Bring Plenty of Water

This is probably the most important thing on the list. Even when there’s a breeze, you’ll spend several hours out in the sun. Between swimming, relaxing and exploring the coastline, it’s easy to become dehydrated without noticing. We always recommend bringing more water than you think you’ll need. You’ll be glad you did later in the day.

Don’t Forget Sunscreen

People often underestimate how strong the sun feels when you’re out on the water. The sunlight reflects off the sea throughout the day, which means you’re getting more sun exposure than you would on land. A good sunscreen is essential, especially during the summer months. It’s also worth reapplying it during the day, particularly after swimming. Nobody wants to spend the rest of their holiday dealing with sunburn.

Bring a Hat and sunglasses

This sounds obvious, but it’s surprising how many people forget one or both. A hat helps protect you from the sun, while a good pair of sunglasses makes a huge difference when you’re spending hours around bright reflections from the water. Polarised sunglasses are even better if you have them.

Wear Comfortable Swimwear

Most people spend a good part of the day in and out of the water. You’ll probably stop for several swims, especially if you’re visiting areas around Kleftiko or some of the quieter beaches along the coastline. Comfortable swimwear is usually all you need. Some guests also bring a light t-shirt or cover-up for extra sun protection during longer trips.

Bring Towels

It sounds simple, but it’s easy to forget when packing for the day. A towel for each person is usually enough. Many guests like having a dry towel waiting after their last swim before heading back.

Pack a Few Snacks

You don’t need a full picnic but having a few snacks on board can make the day more enjoyable. Fruit, sandwiches, nuts, crisps or anything easy to eat works perfectly. Most people find that a few simple snacks are more than enough while they’re out exploring and swimming.

Bring Your Phone or Camera

You’ll almost certainly want photos. The coastline around Milos is full of incredible scenery, especially around Kleftiko and the surrounding beaches. Most people end up taking far more photos than they expected. Just make sure your phone is fully charged before you leave. A portable charger can also be useful if you plan on taking lots of pictures throughout the day.

A Dry Bag Can Be Very Useful

You don’t need one, but if you have one, bring it.

A dry bag is a great place to keep:

  • Phones
  • Wallets
  • Car keys
  • Passports
  • Other valuables

Boats and water naturally go together, and it’s always nice knowing your important items are protected.

Bring Any Personal Medication

If you take regular medication, make sure you bring it with you. The same applies to things like allergy medication or motion sickness tablets if you know you need them. It’s always better to have them and not need them than the other way around.

Wear Suitable Footwear

Depending on the boat and where you’re stopping, comfortable footwear can be helpful. Many people simply wear sandals or flip-flops, which are usually fine. The main thing is choosing something comfortable that’s easy to take on and off.

Leave Expensive Valuables Behind

This is probably one of the simplest tips we can give. If you don’t need it, don’t bring it. Expensive jewellery, large amounts of cash and anything valuable that isn’t necessary is usually best left safely at your accommodation. You’ll enjoy the day more when you’re not worrying about your belongings.

What You Don’t Need to Bring

People often arrive thinking they need much more than they actually do.

You don’t need:

  • Special boating equipment
  • Navigation tools
  • Safety gear
  • Boating experience

We’ll take care of all the boating essentials and explain everything before you leave. Your job is simply to relax and enjoy the day.

Keep It Simple

The best boat days are usually the easiest ones. A towel, some water, sunscreen, a few snacks and good company is often all it takes. Most people finish the day wishing they had spent less time worrying about what to bring and more time looking forward to the experience. If you’re ever unsure about anything before your rental, just ask us. We’re always happy to help and make sure you’re fully prepared for a great day on the water around Milos.
